The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
Season 1 presents a large cast of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by songs about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator stated recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how fast the new season progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans make a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
